Having vaginal irritation is very common. When certain things make contact with your skin, they can become irritated quickly. This is known as contact dermatitis.
Irritants that can cause contact dermatitis include soaps, fabrics, and perfumes. You may also experience severe itching, rawness, stinging, or pain
The main form of treatment for irritation is to avoid whatever has caused the irritation. Also, try to avoid itching the area so that the skin can heal. If all else fails, medication may be prescribed.
Urinary Tract Infection
Also known as an UTI, this is another extremely common condition amongst women. Normally you will most likely feel burning in the vagina when urinating. Other symptoms of a UTI include:
- needing to urinate suddenly or more often
- pain when urinating
- smelly or cloudy urine
- blood in urine
- pain in lower stomach
Typically doctors prescribe antibiotics to treat UTI’s. In general, an infection will clear up in around 5 days after starting a course of antibiotics.
Yeast infections are extremely uncomfortable and can lead to a burning sensation in the vagina. The medical term for this is candidiasis. Symptoms may include:
- pain during sex
- pain or discomfort when urinating
- discharge from the vagina
Although common among women, some women are more prone to infections if they are pregnant, using hormonal contraception, have diabetes or have recently taken an antibiotic.
Treatment is usually an anti-fungal medicine, which a woman can either apply directly in the form of a cream or orally take a capsule.
